SBA INTERNAL LEAGUE

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for parents, players and partner academies.

For parents

How are teams formed?

SBA coaches assign players to balanced teams within each age division. Teams stay fixed for the season — once your child plays a game for a team, transfers aren’t allowed.

Where and when are games played?

  • 3x3 — Tuesdays, 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
  • 5x5 — Thursdays and Fridays, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, ACS Barker Level 3 Court

All scheduled fixtures are final and cannot be moved. Check your division’s schedule page for the full fixture list.

What if my child misses a game?

The team plays on with available players. Minimum 3 to start a 3x3 game (drops to 2 = forfeit); minimum 5 to start a 5x5 game (drops to 4 = forfeit). To be eligible for Semi-Finals or Finals, a player must appear in at least 50% of their team’s games — and for 3x3 there is also a 4-game minimum.

Can I watch?

Yes — all games are open to parents and family. Please review the Spectators’ Code of Conduct before attending.

What does my child need to bring?

Same-colour team uniform with numbers (00–99) on front and back, shorts without pockets, and a water bottle. The league provides the basketballs (Size 5 for U7–U10; Size 6 for U12 in 5x5).

What’s the difference between 3x3 and 5x5?

3x3 is half-court, two 6-minute halves, every basket is 2 points. 5x5 is full-court, four 8-minute quarters, standard FIBA scoring. 3x3 means more touches per kid; 5x5 means a bigger stage. Both formats run because both matter at this age — see the 3x3 Rules and 5x5 Rules for the full details.

About the league

Which divisions run each season?

The 2026 season list runs U7, U8, U10 and U12 across two halves of the year. Specific division dates are on the homepage schedule.

How are tiebreakers resolved?

  1. Head-to-head record
  2. Overall season point differential
  3. Point differential in games between tied teams

How do playoffs work?

After the round-robin, top teams advance to Semi-Finals and Finals. Larger fields use the SBA placing format — every team plays through to a final placing (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th brackets), so no team’s season ends after a single knockout loss.

Are there referees?

Yes — neutral officials run all games under FIBA rules with youth modifications. Full rules: 3x3, 5x5.

For partner academies

Can our academy join?

Yes — we accept partner academies for both seasons. When registrations open, the link appears on the relevant season’s page. For anything else, enquiries@scholarbasketball.com.

How are external teams scheduled?

External teams are folded into the same round-robin as SBA teams within their division. No separate bracket.
